Happy Memories and Non-violence

Some memories last a lifetime. Like happy memories. My childhood was blessed and I was surrounded with happy people. My parents, grandparents and my parents’ friends. We used to go bushwalking in the Grampians in Victoria. I was only 2 or 3 years old and I would run off up ahead along the track alone. I would watch the birds flitting in and out of the small shrubs and admire all the wild flowers that blossomed everywhere. Then I would run back to where the walking party was coming. Sometimes I would crouch down behind a tree and jump out and surprise everyone who was walking towards me. They would all act surprised and I would laugh because I thought that it was funny. I knew not to stray from the path because I could get lost. I never did get lost and I have never lost these happy memories.

I am the little boy in the photo below and holding me is a friend of my parents’, Laurie O’Brien. I always remember Laurie as a happy man and he still is. Today is his birthday and I couldn’t think of a better way to thank him for the memories than to write a happy birthday poem for him.

Memories of the Grampians

Happy Birthday it is true, Happy Birthday just for you

Happy Birthday, you are great. We love the way that you act 8.

Happy Birthday with lots of money. You know I’m just being funny

Wishing you this birthday wish, I hope you get a sloppy kiss

From your darling loving wife. Who has stuck with you all your life

Happy Birthday dear Laurie. You never seem to ever worry

I wrote this poem just for you. Read it when you’re in the loo

Happy Birthday Laurence O’Brien. I hope you have a wonderful time.

My Grandfather

Another fond memory that has never left me is that of my grandfather. He was killed in a car accident when I was only 4 years old. However the memories that I have of him are only positive. While my parents were working I would go a stay with my grandmother for the day. I used to arrive early and watch him shave before work. He would put shaving soap on my face and then pretend to shave it off. We would drive to the airport sometimes and as we would approach and overpassing bridge he say, “no more bridges” then as we went under the bridge he would tap me on the head with a rolled up newspaper and I would laugh. He would laugh. We’d both laugh together. I loved him and he loved me.

I have been fortunate in my life to have had happy and kind men around me when I was young. My father is one of those men. He never hit or smacked me and was always measured in his discipline preferring to use his words than any form of violence. For this I am grateful and this has been reflected in my peaceful non-violent attitude to life. I have never attacked anyone and only ever stepped in between people who were about to fight in order to protect them.

One year I was in West End in Brisbane and there was a drunk guy who was causing trouble. Five other guys were ushering him away and he was getting increasingly aggressive and agitated and starting to swing punches at them. I didn’t want to see him or them get hurt so I walked over, took off my shirt held up my arms and said, “if you want to hit someone hit me.” He punched into my stomach which was tensed and I felt his wrist crack. He then took a swing at my head and I ducked backwards. He just grazed my forehead and then stopped. I looked him square in the eye and said, “Is that it? Have you had enough?” His friend walked over and said to him, “I think you’d better go” He left. Nobody was hurt, except perhaps for his pride and fractured wrist.”

After I studied Environmental Science at university I worked for Greenpeace. The Cold War ended with the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and then the START-Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty on the 31st of July 1991 and the break up of the USSR 26th of December 1991. So by the time I worked for Greenpeace the Cold War was over. The only problem was that the USA had so much money invested in the war machine and arms production that they were addicted to profits and then had to create conflicts in through lies and deceit by dehumanising muslim people.

Now in 2021 we are in one of the most peaceful times in human history. If we get rid of armies and weapons we can truely create abundance, wealth, security and peace on Earth for all people.

We can finally thrive together, care for on another and live in peace on Earth. I wrote the “Legend of the Bombagun” as a post war vision of the world that I would like to see in the future. Below is Part 1 and the rest is available in the second of my “in Nimbin” books, Lust in Nimbin available on Amazon.

My grandfather served in the ADF in WWII and I have always honoured him and the ANZACS for the sacrifices that they made. My belief is that one day the only armies that exist will be responsible for planting trees and vegetable gardens so we can all have freely available healthy nourishing food world wide and live in peace and war will only be a memory. Thank you to all the peaceful men in my life.

Legend of the Bombagund Part 1

Henceforth the sloothan warp was hest.

No more warp kiel est.

Legend of the Bombagund.

Peace now reigns but the rivs were blud.

Over there in future Earth,

Father tells his son a story.

“Long ago the rivs were blud”

“This story will be gory.”

Henceforth the sloothan warp was hest.

No more warp kiel est.

Legend of the Bombagund.

Peace now reigns but the rivs were blud.

Warrender came in a gust of whoosh.

Against no warp did he push,

The Pushers and their rivs a blud.

All lay down the bombagun.

The bombagun henceforth no gotten

But the rivs a blud are not forgotten.

The peace now rigns not the bombagund

Warps rivs a blud no longer run.

Henceforth the sloothan warp will never.

Warp kiel est no more ever.

Legend of the bombagund.

Peace now reigns and the rivs are love.

Warrender stood between the others.

He said, “Hey warps, kiel me yor brutha”

The Warps they answered, “Why? But no.”

“There’s rivs a blud upon the snow”

“ These bombagund no need have gotten

but the rivs a blud are not forgotten”

Warrender came to heal the Earth

And the rivs now run clear rainbow birth.

Henceforth they stopped the rivs a blud.

And the rivs now flowing rivs a love.

Warrender stopped the Bombagund

And the rivs a blud no longer run.

“ Tell me dad. What’s a Bombagund?”

“Twas a machine to make the rivs a blud run son”

Henceforth the sloothan warp was hest.

No more warp kiel est.

Legend of the Bombagund.

The rivs now flow clear rainbow love.

Do what you love but with a plan

I love writing poetry, exercise and constantly challenging myself to change and grow. I am currently doing my final edit of my 2018 poetry anthology, “Djanbung’s Peaceful Protest in Nimbin” At the same time I have opened The Australian Poetry Hall of Fame in Guyra and planning for the “Greatest Poetry Show on Earth” at the grand opening on the 20th of September 2020.

Why has it take so long to get this book edited? Because there are many things that I love doing and I sometimes get distracted from the multitude of goals that I have for my life. Thank you Covid19 for allowing myself to become more focused on what new healthy habits that I need to adopt. I wrote the following piece of poetry titled, “Do what you love” in 2018. However, I would like to add, “with a plan.” That is my learning from this current busy phase of my life.

Schedule, plan, implement and review plan and goals daily.

“Do what you love”

Do what you love
Do what you love
What makes you happy
Why do you complain
When your choice is free

Do what you love
What improves your life
Why do you stay
with your abusive wife

Do what you love
What is your passion
Why do you harm yourself
Not show self compassion

Do what you love
Take control of your health
Why do you eat poison food
Your health is your wealth

Do what you love
Dance paint draw do art
You’ll get a belly ache
if you hold in your fart

Do what you love
It’s my philosophy
Singing dance laughing
Write my poetry

Do what you love
Regardless of fear
If you don’t then your dreams
Will all disappear

Do what you love
You will be happy
When you do what you love
Creating freely

Do what you love
Get rid of the poo
Create a sensation
Amazing and New

Do what you love
Take a walk outside
Look at the clouds
Watch the sunrise

Do what you love
Stop moping alone
Reliving the past
Locked in your home

Do what you love
Don’t make your life hell
Take responsibility
To make your life well

Do what you love
Walk in the rain
Please stop saying things
That cause yourself pain

Do what you love
Or you’ll never know
How wonderful life is
When you constantly grow

Do what you love
Stop the trouble and strife
What self abusive habits
Will you drop from your life?

50 Thousand Years

1st Prize, Crocodile Crawl and Marathon Swim in Nimbin Pool Olympics

It was my 50,000th birthday yesterday so I have decided that I will share all my poetry from the last 24 hours. However, first I want to announce that I achieved a lifelong dream of Olympic Gold in the Nimbin Pool Olympics on the 27th of January 2020. I won’t be going to the Tokyo Olympic Games but I am seriously considering entering the 50m butterfly in the Pan Pacific Masters Games #PPMG2020 on the Gold Coast in November because with dedicated training, I can win.

This first one celebrates my sons and the gift of life from my two past wives.

Thanks for the gift of life
From my first and second wife
Our three sons are my greatest gift
Everywhere they go spirits lift
Clay, Luca and Sacha are my sons
The Builder of Earth, The Light of Moon, The Protective ,Caring One
Carrying Water mixing Earth, and Light
The love of two people in the Moon Light
I sowed the seeds and nurtured my sons
They look to me as The Role Model One
I express gratitude
for their attitude
Their smiles, hugs,
that they are peaceful not thugs
They grow and show love
Protect, build and shine light above
Thanks for the gift life
From my first and second wife

This poem is about self care because if you don’t care for yourself how can you care for others?

My time alone is time I own
I’ll spend it productively alone
Time for self, mental and physical health
As my health is my wealth

Quiet time is sublime
Where I find the words that rhyme
So I will write in the night
Words to inspire and delight

Time for me is time I’m free
To create my life for me
Where I inspire others higher
In the quiet time when I retire

I’m in Brisbane visiting my parents and son amd when I went outside in the night to pee, I noticed the difference and decided to write about it. Please pardon my profanity 😉

The city and bush

The city at night is incredibly quiet with only a far away hum
Back in the Bush sound surrounds insects, frogs are around so back to the Bush I’ll run

The city at night is filled with light
Even when the moon does not shine
In the Bush I see stars, wallabies not cars
And The Milky Way in a bright line

In the city asleep, you don’t hear a peep
But the hum of the air conditioners ring
In the Bush hear the breeze, in leaves of trees
And Cicadas that make my ears ring

I heard a bird, he said some words
“faaaark the city I’m a crow”
“there’s many birds in the Bush, so off I’ll push
“off to the faaaaarkin Bush I’ll go”

I’ll get out alive, thrive not survive
So I made a decision to leave
In the Bush I am happy, life’s peaceful not crappy
But the city makes me want to cry and grieve

I won’t look behind, life is sublime
I am lucky I live with the land
In the city day and night, there’s struggle and fight
But in the Bush the beauty is grand.

There’s a lumpy old stump that I love to jump
Wind blows the leaves on the ground
Now I sit in a White box with a fan at the top
Going around and around

I’m going back On a winding logging track
That’s now a road for a car
I will be fine in the Bush anytime
And The city, long gone and far

Anticomplaint

Today I’ll complain
I know its strange
But I also wake up with pain
I wouldn’t usually tell you
I just push through
And manage it with my brain
I want to complain
About sun and rain
And fuckas
In my news feed
That whinge and complain
About the hot and cold
New and old
And can’t handle the truth
From people like me
Who are BOLD

I Emptied MY cup
But filled it back up
Because who wants to be
A useless fukup
So I won’t complain
Put my shit in your brain
With your pussy attitude
Are you sane?
Lift my spirit high
Fly in the sky
Experience all of life
With joy and not cry
Laughing with happiness
Passion and bliss
My puspose to uplift
As people need this
And I will no longer
Whine nor complain
About pain
But take action
not get sucked down the drain

I won’t complain
Nobody wants to hear it
I am an uplifter
An uplifting spirit
My purpose to share my words to uplift
Sometimes a slap in the face book
Is lifes greatest gift.

STOP IT

Stop trying and just decide to do it
Stop crying and go through with it
Stop giving up and start something new
Stop procrastinating and just do
Stop surviving and thrive
Stop drifting and drive
Stop hating and love
Stop fearing have courage
Stop sinking and swim
Stop drinking alcohol and live
Stop taking and give
Stop shaming and forgive
Stop fighting and care
Stop cutting and grow hair
Stop complaining and be sane
You are responsible for the thoughts and actions of your brain

Birds, bees, flowers, forest trees, we are in the need of these.
